Have You Tried Adobe Lightroom 5 Beta?

Adobe has made the latest and greatest version of its popular digital photography editing software Lightroom available free for a limited time. The beta version of Lightroom 5 can be installed and used up until June 30 on Mac or Windows computers. For those who aren't familiar, Lightroom was first released in 2006 and provides a comprehensive suite of image ehnancement and editing tools. Lightroom also features a visual library that makes it simple to select, find and organize collections of images.

The blog has more information on this release, as well as examples of some new features. Highlights begin with a feature called Smart Preview, which can save smaller versions of RAW images from an external drive locally. Once smart previews are generated for an image library, edits can be made to these offline versions of the original images. Edits to the smart previews are then automatically applied when the originals are reconnected.

Ricoh Launches $800 16MP Compact Camera

Pre-orders are now being accepted for the Ricoh GR compact camera. The new GR features a 16MP APS-C CMOS image sensor for shooting low-noise, super-high resolution images, and full 1080p HD video. The camera is capable of high sensitivity from ISO 100 all the way to ISO 25600, and 4 fps of continuous shooting.

The GR also ships with a range of helpful features like in-body RAW-data development and a dedicated depth of field preview button. Other features include: A fixed 18.3 mm f/2.8 lens, pop-up flash and Eye-Fi card compatibility.

Panasonic Lumix GF6 Release is Official

After multiple leaks including a hands-on review ahead of Panasonic's official announcement, the Lumix GF6 Micro Four Thirds camera is finally official. The updated hardware will include a 16 megapixel Live MOS image sensor along with a brand new Venus engine. Besides interchangeable lens capability, the GF6 sports an adjustable 3-inch touch screen with over one million pixels.

When it comes to ISO equivalent sensitivity, the GF6 has a range between 160 and 25,600. Low light performance is enhanced by advanced noise reduction on the new Venus engine, along with low light auto focus. The camera's burst mode provides shooting speeds up to 3.7 frames per second.

Pre-orders for the Blackmagic Cinema Camera are now available through B&H Photo. Blackmagic has managed to pack an impressive amount of professional features into an affordable and compact camera. It features a Super 16 sized sensor with 13 stops of dynamic range, and it is capable of shooting Full HD video in both CinemaDNG RAW or Apple ProRes 422 format.

Other features include: A built-in SD card recorder, a 3.5-inch (800 x 480) resolution LCD and a rechargeable lithium ion battery. The Pocket Camera from Blackmagic also includes all the necessary professional connections such as a micro HDMI output, an AV compatible mini jack microphone input, and a LANC control input.

The Blackmagic Cinema Camera with EF Mount is back in stock at Adorama. The affordable cinema camera has been primarily out of stock since it was announced at NAB in 2012. It is unknown how long it will stay in stock this time around, so interested buyers should act quickly and nab one while there is still a chance.

It's capable of shooting in uncompressed RAW and compressed file formats, and it is compatible with EF and ZE mount lenses. However, the camera's's biggest feature may be its price tag. The Blackmagic Cinema Camera aims to provide a feature film experience at a small fraction of the cost.

Vision Research Unveils Phantom Flex4K Cinema Camera

Vision Research officially unveiled the Phantom Flex4K cinema camera at NAB this weekend. The $110k camera is capable of shooting 1,000 fps in 4k, giving you more than three-minutes of 4k video when played back at 24 fps. The Phantom Flex4K is also compatible with the new Phantom Cinemag IV memory cartridge, which will be available in up to 2TB of data. This will allow you to shoot around two-hours of uncompressed RAW material.

The Phantom Flex4K features a Super-35 CMOS sensor, 4096×2304 (16:9) resolution, 12+ stops of dynamic range, a Bluetooth transmitter, handheld Phantom RCU, HD-SDI video output, and a simple menu display/interface. A banner for Blackmagic's upcoming Pocket Cinema camera was spotted at NAB on Monday. Danielo Garcia snapped a picture of the Black Magic signage, which reveals the camera is a budget-friendly Micro Four Thirds priced at $995. The Pocket Cinema features a Super-16 Cinema 1080HD sensor, 13 stops of dynamic range, lossless CinemaDNG RAW recording and Micro HDMI monitoring.

Panasonic Lumix GF6 Images and Specs Leaked

Someone from TechRadar made a big mistake by publishing an early review for Panasonic's Lumix GF6. An article titled “Hands on: Panasonic GF6” appeared on the site Thursday, before being quickly removed. However, several other sites managed to grab a few images of the Micro Four Thirds mirrorless camera before they disappeared.

PetaPixel published four images of the new camera and its specs thanks to Google’s cache of the hands-on review. The accidental sneak peek revealed that the GF6 sports a 6-megapixel sensor, a new Venus engine and a 180-degree tilting touchscreen. It also features NFC-technology, which will allow the camera to share images by touching other devices.

Canon Announces Flagship VIXIA HF G30 Camcorder For Advanced Amateur Videographers

Canon has announced a new camcorder geared towards amateurs who would like to capture high-quality footage without having to buy a professional model. The VIXIA HF G30 is the flagship of Canon's VIXIA Series of consumer camcorders. It offers professional-quality features for advanced amateurs. The VIXIA HF G30 features a newly designed 20x wide-angle (35mm equivalent: 26.8mm - 536mm) f/1.8 HD video lens, a DIGIC DV 4 processor, an 8-Blade circular aperture and optical image stabilization with Dynamic Mode to help reduce image distortion.

The HF G30 also offers dual recording in AVCHD and MP4, and sports a 3.5-inch, OLED touchscreen. The new display allows users to easily control focus, exposure, and track shooting subjects with just the swipe of a finger.

Panasonic Releases Lumix GH3 Firmware Update

Panasonic has released the DMC-GH3 firmware update previously announced earlier this month. The update applies to the GH3 digital camera and three lenses, the 45-150mm as well as the 14-42mm and 45-175mm power zooms. When it comes to these lenses mounted on the GH3, the new firmware is designed to improve autofocus performance in continuous AF mode.
