Canon Introduces Two Ultra-Compact Professional Camcorders

Canon has announced two high-performance compact camcorders designed for professional use. Both the XA25 and XA20 sport a 20x HD zoom lens, a 3.5-Inch LED touchscreen, and wireless connectivity for uploading digital content to other devices.

Both models also feature a lightweight (2.6 lbs) and compact design geared towards "run-and-gun" documentary-style/news gathering scenarios. The new Canon DIGIC DV 4 processor controls several new features including the Canon Intelligent IS for automatic image-stabilization based on different shooting conditions, Canon Auto Focus, and Face Detection. Dual-band wireless support (5GHz and 2.4GHz) also allows for easy data sharing with tablets or smartphones, and the ability to control the XA25 and XA20 via a web browser on a PC or mobile device.

Additional features include simultaneous MP4 and AVCHD recording, dual SD slots for long periods of continuous shooting, and an HD/SD-SDI connector (BNC) for connecting to a wide variety of TV transmission systems.

Both the The XA20 and AX25 will be available in June for $2,499 and $2,999, respectively.
