Pre-Order the Mirrorless Canon M

As expected, Canon announced today its new series of mirrorless interchangeable lens camera, the Canon M. In an ambitious attempt to combine the imaging quality of a DSLR with the convenience and portability mirrorless cameras are renowned for, the Canon M features an 18 Mp APS-C sensor, Canon's DIGIC 5 image processor, and a 3.0" 1,040k-dot touch-screen LCD. The M comes bundled with a 22mm f/2.0 STM lens featuring continuous and quiet autofocus.

According to Canon's Yuichi Ishizuka, "The EOS M includes a unique feature set making it an ideal movie-making tool, while also offering incredible still image quality on its APS-C-sized CMOS sensor. The camera's size, image quality, advanced video capabilities and the versatility of Canon's full lineup of lenses make the EOS M another great option to help our customers record and capture their creative vision."

More Canon Mirrorless Camera Rumors Surface

It has been rumored that Canon is working on a new mirrorless interchangeable lens camera to be released this summer. Canon Rumors posted an update claiming that an announcement could be made in the next 30 days. Canon was originally expected to announce the camera in June, followed by a second camera announcement in September.

According to Canon Rumors, the unnamed camera will use the same sized sensor as the G1 X, and be launched with at least 3 lenses. Canon is also expected to announce a "consumer" model, and possibly a professional model at a later date. The camera could also feature a new mount but still be compatible with EF lenses.

Canon Mirrorless Camera Announcements Coming Soon

More information is now circulating about Canon's upcoming entry into the mirrorless interchangeable lens camera market, and the first of two announcements could be right around the corner. Canon Rumors reports that the first of two cameras could be revealed before summer, which is sooner than previously expected.

A second camera announcement would follow in September, if the sources are correct. The first camera has been described as an APS-C sensor mirrorless camera with image quality that approaches Canon digital SLR models. The body would ship with an 18-45mm kit lens with several other lenses available at launch.

Pre-orders for the Fujifilm X-Pro 1 are now being accepted by B&H and Adorama. The mirrorless interchangeable lens camera (MILC) looks like a retro-style rangefinder, but it's packed with many advanced features.

The Fujifilm X-Pro 1 features a die-cast aluminum top and base, leather like finish and a snug fitting eyepiece to give it a comfortable feel. Its advanced digital features include an APS-C 23.6 x 15.6mm X-Trans CMOS sensor, EXR processor and 3-inch RGBW LCD monitor. The X Mount helps attach the available FUJINON XF lenses to the X-Pro 1 body and keeps rear lens elements as close to the sensor as possible.

Olympus OM-D Camera: Leaked Photo Revealed

We've already heard that the Olympus OM-D camera is scheduled for an official announcement on February 8th. More information on specifications and a photo of the OM-D shutter release button have leaked out ahead of the official Olympus event. The photo is shown below and is the first of its kind to be revealed by 4/3 Rumors.

Although only a small portion of the OM-D is visible, it looks to be finished well. The model pictured is black, however Olympus is expected to follow the trend of retro styling seen in other cameras such as the Fujifilm X-Pro1. This would be a fitting tribute to the long line of Olympus OM film cameras.

Mirrorless Fujifilm X-Pro1 Set to Impress

Fujifilm's latest entry into the digital camera market comes with the same sharp, retro styling seen in the Fujifilm X10 and X100 models. The X-Pro1 is a mirrorless interchangeable lens camera (MILC) that will launch along with three specially designed lenses in February.

Even though the X-Pro1 may look like a rangefinder from decades ago, Fujifilm has packed advanced technology into this camera including the X Mount lens mount, which communicates information between the body and lens. Framing lines are adjusted automatically when switching to a different lens, and a hybrid viewfinder makes it easy to switch between optical and electronic settings at will.

Third party lens manufacturers are starting to hop on the E-mount bandwagon, and Tamron is the latest entry into the NEX lens market.

This week we saw leaked images of the highly anticipated Nikon D800 DSLR, and now Fujifilm's upcoming entry into the mirrorless interchangeable lens camera (MILC) segment has been revealed.

From the photos, it appears that the Fujifilm LX will share some of the design characteristics of the X100 and X10, both of which have a retro flair. In addition to a universal hot shoe, the LX appears to have several manual controls on the exterior of the camera. These include a separate shutter release and exposure compensation dial.

Panasonic GX1 Joins Lumix G Series Cameras

The latest addition to Panasonic's Micro Four Thirds digital camera lineup, the Lumix DMC-GX1 arrives this December. Despite its compact size, the GX1 packs a 16 megapixel Live MOS sensor and an ISO sensitivity of 12800. Critics of the GF2 will be happy to see that Panasonic has moved to add professional features to the GX1.

The Lumix GX1 features a hot shoe with accessory port along with an optional electronic viewfinder. On top of the aluminum chassis is a mode selection dial, and there's a 3-inch touch screen LCD display in back. Two buttons can even be assigned to custom settings for ease of use in any situation.

Samsung NX200 to Launch Globally in October

Samsung's latest digital camera creation has hit shelves in South Korea and is planned for a global launch later this month. The Samsung NX200 is a mirrorless interchangeable lens camera (MILC) with a 20.3 megapixel APS-C CMOS image sensor for professional results. All this in an incredibly compact form factor measuring only 4.6 x 2.5 x 1.4 inches. The camera is currently retailing in South Korea for around $840.

Samsung is the third largest camera manufacturer by market share following rivals Canon and Sony, and the company has been itching to enter the higher end of the market as most of its sales come from point and shoot compacts. The NX200 is versatile with many compatible Samsung lenses already on the market.
