World's Most Powerful Digital Camera Seeks Answers

If you've ever wondered why the expansion of the universe continues to accelerate, there's a new camera operating that might help answer the question. The Dark Energy Camera is mounted to the Blanco telescope high in the mountains of Chile. Eight years of work went into the camera's engineering and construction.

Lytro Camera Firmware Update Adds Features

Almost one year after the Lytro camera launched in October 2011, light-field photographers can now manually control the device thanks to a firmware update. Added features are just the start, as Lytro now comes in two additional colors and other accessories have arrived.

When the Lytro camera was introduced last fall, some advanced shooters were disappointed with the resolution and point-and-shoot operation of the camera. Of course, the advantage to light-field capture is the ability to focus the image after recording. The firmware update improves on Lytro by adding manual shutter controls (from 1/250 to 8 seconds).

AT&T First to Launch Samsung Galaxy Camera

AT&T will be the first U.S. carrier to offer the Galaxy Camera from Samsung. The Galaxy Camera allows users to easily share and edit photographs without having to connect to a laptop or PC. The 16MP camera features AT&T 4G mobile internet connectivity and Android 4.1 Jelly Bean, which allows users to access their favorite Android apps via the Google Play store.

The Samsung Galaxy Camera ships with a 4.8-inch HD Super Clear LCD screen and a 21x optical zoom lens. It's powered by a quad-core 1 GHz processor, and can capture high-quality images close up and in low light conditions, according to Samsung. Users can also easily share photos with other Samsung devices such as the Galaxy S III. AllShare Play mode locates Samsung HDTVs, laptops and other devices on the same Wi-Fi network for photo uploading. The Share Shot mode automatically shares images with other Samsung devices up to 200 feet away, and Buddy Photo Share automatically tags faces for easy sharing on social media sites.

Canon Fall 2012 Rebates Extended on 25 Lenses and More

Canon announced a slew of 2012 rebates, with instant savings offers now extended until October 27, 2012. If you're in the market for a specific lens, there are now 25 different EF, EF-S and TS lenses being offered at one-time discounts of up to $300. Samsung's $500 Smart EX2F Camera Now Available

Samsung has announced the EX2F SMART camera is now available in stores and through online Samsung retailers. The affordable EX2F compact camera features a 3-inch AMOLED display, a 12.4-megapixel CMOS sensor and a f/1.4-2.7 (24-79mm) lens. The camera's Dual Image Stabilization ensures your 12.4MP pictures won't come out burred or distorted, and its f/1.4 24mm wide-angle lens, with 11 elements in nine groups, promises better image quality and zoom ratio. The EX2F can also record 1080p Full HD at 30 frames per second.

Lecia Announces V-Lux 4 Compact Camera for Wildlife and Sports Enthusiast

Lecia has announced the V-Lux 4 digital compact camera with constant F2.8 lens and high-resolution electronic viewfinder. Lecia promises the constant maximum aperture of f2.8 makes it possible to capture "pin-sharp images at greater distances even under unfavorable lighting conditions." The camera's maximum ISO sensitivity of 6400 and 12-megapixel CMOS sensor also ensures better quality images in extreme photographic situations, including unfavorable lighting conditions.

Fujifilm Officially Announces Pocket-Sized XF1

Fujifilm has officially announced the XF1 pocket-sized digital camera, not the "XP1" like we originally reported. The XF1 joins the X-E1 as the newest addition to Fuji's retro-looking X-series lineup. The compact camera features a retro body, a newly-developed f/1.8 FUJINON lens with a manual 4× optical zoom, 2/3-inch EXR-CMOS sensor and EXR Processor.

Canon has announced the EOS 6D for "serious photography enthusiasts". According to Canon, the EOS 6D is the "world's lightest DSLR to feature a full-frame CMOS sensor." The 6D employs an 11-point autofocus system, and is powered by a DIGIC 5+ image processor. The 6D is also Canon's first EOS model to include GPS and Wi-Fi, for location tagging or importing photos to other devices.

Panasonic Lumix GH3 Video Accidently Leaked?

A video for Panasonic's new micro four thirds camera, the Lumix GH3, was uploaded and quickly removed from the company's official YouTube page on Friday. Engadget got a look at the video before it was pulled.

According to Engadget, the video revealed a few key specs like a 16-megapixel sensor and a new version of Panny's Venus Engine processor. The Lumix GH3 features a splash- and dust-proof magnesium alloy build, and a a flip-out LCD, which according to Engadget, "looks much the same as the GH2's".

Nikon has announced the long-awaited D600 full frame camera. The D600 is the most compact, lightweight DSLR on the market. It features a newly developed 24.3 MP FX-format CMOS sensor, an ultra-fast EXPEED 3 image processor, noise-free shooting from ISO 100 to 6400 (expandable down to 50 and up to 25,600 for extreme lighting situation) and 5.5 fps of continuous shooting.
