The Blackmagic Cinema Camera was announced at NAB 2012 with the intention of delivering a timeless feature film look at an affordable price. The compact personal camcorder is aimed at YouTube users and video bloggers looking to upgrade from their low-quality webcams to full HD video. The Vixia features a 2.7-inch touchscreen display that can flip backwards for taking those all important "selfies." Throwable Camera Grabs Images on the Fly

Need to snap some panoramic images? Pretty soon it will be as simple as throwing a tennis-ball sized camera. Inventor Steve Hollinger has patented the Squito throwable camera, which incorporates position and orientation sensors to process images on the fly. Besides three on-board cameras, the Squito prototype sports an inertial measurement unit along with a microcontroller and image processor.

The technology involved computes the relationship between the subject and spinning cameras, making it possible to re-orient and stitch the images together for a complete panorama. The same method also can be used to stabilize video, by registering frames captured in sequence. Not only this, but hardware inside Squito can wirelessly transmit the images and video captured directly to a mobile device or computer.

Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera to Start Shipping in Limited Quantities, 4K Camera Delayed

Blackmagic announced at an LA event earlier today that limited quantities of the Pocket Cinema camera would begin to ship within 3-4 days. However, Blackmagic is still working on its 4K Production Camera, and it will not be completed until sometime in August. It's unknown how many Pocket models will be sent out, but most of the "limited quantity" will probably be evenly distributed to Blackmagic retailers. Adorama and B&H currently still have the camera listed at "pre-order" status.

Blackmagic Pocket Cinema Camera

Both the Pocket and 4K Cinema Cameras were announced at NAB 2013 back in April. The Pocket Cinema model impressed camera enthusiasts and filmmakers with its 1080P RAW specs, and affordable $995 price. However, Blackmagic is unfortunately becoming more known for its delays, rather than its lineup of affordable cinema cameras.

Print Your Next Camera with OpenReflex

Normally photographers print photos, not entire 35mm cameras. Now thanks to designer Léo Marius, anyone with access to a RepRap-style 3D Printer can fabricate the parts needed to build the OpenReflex SLR camera from scratch. Léo used a MakerBot Replicator 2X with around $30 in parts and ABS plastic to create the working unit.

OpenReflex 35mm DIY

Complete, open source instructions on how to build the OpenReflex 3D Printed Camera can be found on Autodesk Instructables. The camera itself is assembled from three distinct parts with their own function. Once they are built, the film receiver, viewfinder and shutter work together to carry the 35mm film, preview the shot, and expose the image.
