If the $10,000 FS700 Sony camcorder is a little too pricey, you might want to check out the HXR-NX30U palm-sized HD camcorder which is also arriving in June from Sony. The $2,500 camcorder utilizes Sony's breakthrough Balanced Optical SteadyShot technology, which aims to cut down on camera shake while filming from mosh pits or other challenging situations. It's also one of the lightest professional camcorders on the market.
"Conventional image stabilization systems typically 'float' an individual lens element with a motor drive to compensate for camera shake," explains Chiyoko Yannette, marketing manager at Sony Electronics' Professional Solutions of America group. "Balanced Optical SteadyShot combines the entire lens and image sensor assembly into one floating element that moves as a unit to reduce the shaking effect caused by normal motion during shooting."
