Canon Mirrorless Camera Announcements Coming Soon

More information is now circulating about Canon's upcoming entry into the mirrorless interchangeable lens camera market, and the first of two announcements could be right around the corner. Canon Rumors reports that the first of two cameras could be revealed before summer, which is sooner than previously expected.

A second camera announcement would follow in September, if the sources are correct. The first camera has been described as an APS-C sensor mirrorless camera with image quality that approaches Canon digital SLR models. The body would ship with an 18-45mm kit lens with several other lenses available at launch.

Sony NEX-F3 Camera Specs, Photos Leaked

Sony fans have their first glimpses of the upcoming NEX-F3 camera thanks to photos leaked on Sony Alpha Rumors. The site also got their hands on full specifications for the NEX-F3, which will be officially announced on May 17. The F3 will replace the current NEX-C3 model, and features the same 16.1 megapixel sensor.

Image quality will be improved by the new BIONZ processor, and other new features include a tiltable display screen and built-in flash. Sony NEX-C3 kits are already being marked discontinued at some retailers. Sony is expected to announce the NEX-C3 along with the A37 and some new A and E mount zoom lenses.

Hasselblad to Reveal Digital X-Pan at Photokina?

Hints of a new family of digital cameras from Hasselblad are circulating, according to Photo Rumors. The new offerings could be officially introduced at Photokina this September in Cologne, Germany. Two different possibilities are mentioned, including a small DSLR style camera.

The other intriguing possibility is a digital version of the X-Pan. The X-Pan II pictured above was discontinued in 2005, and was capable of shooting in two formats. Standard 35mm images and panoramic images 65mm wide were both supported by this film camera.

Just ahead of its expected announcement in Shanghai tomorrow, March 2nd, full specifications and details regarding Canon's highly anticipated EOS 5D Mark III have leaked. A new post on Canon Rumors has outed the full specs of the camera, new images of the camera which are presumed to be the official Canon images and information on related 5D3 accessories.

In addition to the already leaked 22 megapixel sensor, the 5D Mark III is now expected to have significantly improved high-ISO performance due to the the expanded native ISO range of 100-25600 (which is expandable up to 104200). Other high performance features that are newcomers to the 5D series include a 61 point (41 cross-type points) high-density reticular auto-focus system, improved durability and weather sealing, dual card slots (CF + SD) a new HDR mode and more.

Photos Reveal Canon EOS 5D Mark III

The announcement of the next Canon 5D just became a little less suspenseful. Some people are still expecting Canon to come up with an EOS 5D X after the recent 1D X reveal last October. Photos posted to the Canon Rumors forum today would beg to differ.

Clearly marked and matching previous leaked photos of the next Canon DSLR, the 5D Mark III looks set for an official announcement this Friday March 2. 5D3 events worldwide will include announcements in France and Singapore that already been confirmed according to reports.

Canon 1D X Release Date Could Be Delayed

Canon fans may have to wait longer than expected for the EOS 1D X to start shipping. The DSLR was initially expected in late March, but Northlight Images has heard otherwise. The release date for the 1D X could be pushed forward to April or even May.

Canon is said to be working on improving the 1D X firmware. According to reports, recent production problems in Asia are not the reason for the delay in shipping. Major US retailers have not yet offered the 1D X for pre-order, with pricing expected to be in the $6,800 range and an unknown release date.

Canon 5D Mark III / 5D X Announcement on March 2?

Canon could be planning to reveal the successor to the EOS 5D Mark II as early as March 2. Questions regarding whether or not the next DSLR will be named the 5D Mark III or the 5D X remain unanswered, however Canon Rumors reports that non-disclosure agreements are set to expire on this date.

This paves the way for an announcement of the highly-anticipated camera body at the end of next week. Canon Rumors also notes that some sources continue to mention February 28 as a possible 5D3 announcement date, although a previously rumored February announcement failed to happen.

Nikon D800 to be Officially Unveiled Tomorrow?

UPDATE: The Nikon D800 and D800E are now announced and available for pre-order.

The Brazilian website ZTOP published an early preview of the Nikon D800 before pulling it due to an embargo. The site said they will republish the information at midnight when the 36.3-megapixel camera is officially unveiled. The D800 is rumored to feature a CMOS sensor capable of 7360 x 4912 resolution, ISO from 100 - 6,400 and the ability to capture full 1080p30 HD video.

Previous leaks have suggested that the D800 will be smaller and lighter than the recently discontinued D700, and feature a 3.2-inch LCD viewfinder.

Is This the Canon 5D Mark III in Field Testing?

Next generation Canon DSLR specs have been leaking out for some time, with an announcement expected early this spring. As it turns out, photographer Stephen Oachs may have scored a first glimpse of the 5D Mark III when he stumbled upon a Japanese photographer field testing some new Canon equipment.

As Oachs explains on Aperture Academy, the photographer he encountered in Kenya pointed out that he was field testing a new 200-400mm lens with a built-in teleconverter. Oachs couldn't help but notice that the camera body was not familiar and snapped a few shots for the rest of us.

Olympus OM-D Camera: Leaked Photo Revealed

We've already heard that the Olympus OM-D camera is scheduled for an official announcement on February 8th. More information on specifications and a photo of the OM-D shutter release button have leaked out ahead of the official Olympus event. The photo is shown below and is the first of its kind to be revealed by 4/3 Rumors.

Although only a small portion of the OM-D is visible, it looks to be finished well. The model pictured is black, however Olympus is expected to follow the trend of retro styling seen in other cameras such as the Fujifilm X-Pro1. This would be a fitting tribute to the long line of Olympus OM film cameras.
