Budget Cam Shoots Underwater HD Video

Some say the days of the cheap video camera are numbered thanks to the proliferation of smartphones with better imaging components. Vivitar still manages to fill a niche for people who aren't interested in putting their phones underwater. For a mere 60 bucks the DVR-690HD provides 720p HD (25 fps) video recording in up to 10 feet of water.

Stills are captured at 5 megapixels, and video clocks data usage of one GB for every six minutes using the AVI M-JPEG file format. An SD expansion slot accepts cards up to 32 GB. Don't count on any on-board memory; the 690HD only has an 8 MB buffer built in.

The feature films Iron Man 2 and Captain America have more in common than just their comic book origins. Both films used the Canon EOS 5D Mark II to shoot action sequences that were integrated seamlessly with 35mm film in the editing room. It's clear that using the 5D Mark II in place of traditional cameras has several advantages, as the camera is getting more attention from big-budget feature productions in Hollywood.

When it comes to recording action, the smaller size of the 5D Mark II can provide angles in shots that just can't be captured by larger equipment. Not only this, but thanks to its compact profile a digital SLR can be mounted to vehicles or elsewhere in the scene without showing up obtrusively in other footage.

Sony HD Series S-Frames Coming in September

Sony's latest digital picture frames are packed with features and high resolution LED backlit LCD screens for viewing photos and HD video. That's right, full 1920 x 1080 resolution HD video file playback is possible directly on the new S-Frames. A built-in speaker accommodates sound for videos and MP3, AAC, and Linear PCM audio files can be played.

The S-Frames include 2 GB of internal memory and accept a variety of external storage formats. To share pictures or for more space the device accepts Sony's Memory Stick PRO Duo, SD, SDHC and SDXC memory cards and USB flash drives.

Sony Makes 3D Imaging Affordable With Bloggie HD Camera

Sony is bringing 3D imaging technology to the masses with the Bloggie 3D camera, priced at only $249.99. Otherwise known as the MHS-FS3, this compact camera records full 1920x1080 HD video in 3D and features a built-in USB arm to transfer files. The high-resolution 2.4-inch rear display even previews images and video in 3D without any special glasses.

Of course, standard 2D images and video can also be recorded. Dual front lenses make 3D recording possible, and 3D content can be exported to other 3D-capable devices including television sets, digital photo frames, Nintendo 3DS and the VAIO F 3D laptop. When it comes to still photos, 3D images are recorded at 2 megapixels and normal 2D images are 5 megapixels.
